Philippians 4:6-7 ~ Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
We are not to be so overwhelmed and concerned about situations as to worry ourselves into poor health physically, mentally, and spiritually. We are to give ourselves – heart, mind, body, and soul – to the Lord in prayer. We come to Him with our troubles to turn our potential to worry into the potential to worship and praise Him, the matchless Eternal One who inhabits the praises of His people and inhabits eternity. We ought to find comfort in the fact that He tells us to come to Him and bring our supplications and requests to Him. He desires to hear our prayers, and He desires to answer our prayers. (1 John 5:14-15)
The peace that passes all understanding is the peace we have with God. So how can we have the peace of God that passes all understanding. It comes through a life given to prayer; communication with God; time spent with God. We are told to bring all our cares and concerns to God in prayer. That does not mean to come to Him with a grocery list of burdens every day. It means to come to Him with our hearts and our minds open. We are to spend time talking “with” Him because He is our Heavenly Father. Many people pray to God by they spend all their time talking “to” Him rather than “with” Him. We are to spend time “with” Him just as we would our earthly Dad.
When you spend time talking “with” God daily you can cast your cares upon Him because you KNOW He cares for you. The relationship is strong, and it is real. It is not a daily motion to help unwind from the problems of life. He invites us to make our supplications to Him. Supplications as used here means earnest heartfelt petitions. They go beyond general praying to deep, humble pleading with God in times of great need or dependence upon His mercy. There is an urgent sense of sincere appeal that acknowledges our dependence upon God’s provision and guidance. It is the prayer of a great need for self or for a loved one; perhaps the need for a loved one to be saved before it is eternally too late. When we pray to God, we are essentially aligning our heart and minds with the Word of God and the will of God.
We are to pray with thanksgiving. That means that our prayers are to be always seasoned with thanksgiving at all times and in all situations and circumstances. We can pray for a need and give thanks for the need and for the Lord’s promise to fulfill that need. We can pray for anything, in anything, and be thankful while doing so. There is no time that we cannot pray and not be thankful. If our whole world seems to be inside out, upside down, falling apart, of coming apart at the seams, we still can give thanks for the goodness and the grace of God towards us. When we make our supplications known to God, we acknowledge His sovereignty and faithfulness, even in trials. When we pray with supplications, we are placing our faith in God’s faithfulness to hear and answer prayers which gives us peace within to know that we have placed it in the hands of the One who can do something about it. We are also acknowledging, not only His sovereignty, but our acceptance of His answers and His outcome.
We have peace with God through Jesus Christ our Savior. He made peace between us through His Cross. He brings us into that peace covenant when we come before God with repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. By faith we gain access into the grace of God and into the peace of God. That peace with God that allows us to grow in a relationship with Him as His child, gives us comfort and understanding. It gives us holy boldness to approach Him with our cares and concerns and to lay them down at His feet to do with them as He sees fit.
He loves each one of us individually. He cares for you as an individual which means He is concerned with you and your situations and circumstances. He desires to work in your life for your benefit. This brings to us peace in good times and bad times, from the mountaintop highs to the death valley lows, and allows us to have a peace that the world does not comprehend or understand. When they are utterly frustrated and cowering in fear and they lose all sense of hope, we have a Father who cares for us and gives us joy, peace, and comfort.
While there is uncertainty in the world every day, we have the peace of God that allows us to stand firm and unshaken by the circumstances. It provides that inner calm that will surpass worldly understanding, giving us strength to face our fears and our challenges with faith, trust, and confidence. He keeps our hearts and minds in a safe place with His peace and comfort.
When we walk in this unmistakable, unshakable peace through adversity and affliction, it serves as a witness to those around us of the power of God. The world sees our trust, confidence, and calmness as we place our faith and our outcome in the hands of Almighty God who upholds His people. They see that our hope is not in earthly security but in God our Father. This peace is not passive, it is powerful, transformative, and rooted in complete surrender to God.
Give yourself to a life of spending time with God in prayer, making supplication, and making your requests known to Him. You will be unshaken, unstoppable, and unbreakable for the glory of God. Your prayer will move mountains, your supplications will cry out in faith, and your thanksgiving will shift circumstances. Embrace the peace of God with no fear, no doubt, and no worldly chaos as you anchor yourself in Christ. You will be confident, victorious, and filled with unshakable peace that will guard your heart and mind through Christ. This is your calling, your power, and your testimony.
