2 Corinthians 5:7 ~ (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
We live in a world that is all about what we can see, touch, and control. But God has called us to live above this, to live by faith in Him. We are to trust in the unseen hand and allow Him to lead us when fear and uncertainty tries to cloud our vision. When things ahead are unclear and darkness seems to cover the path ahead, anxiety tries to come in and cause us to worry and doubt ourselves and to doubt what God will do for us. God tells us to walk by faith, not by sight. He calls us to trust Him when we cannot see our way is clear.
When we have these times when we cannot see what is ahead of us, fear of the unknown hinders our forward progress. We tend to want to stay with what we know rather than step out of our comfort zone. Fear may thrive in these times, but thankfully we can trust in the Lord and His promises. It is when we step out on faith trusting what He has promised that our faith will flourish. This is the time to realize that God’s Word is real; it is active and alive, and that it will carry us above our circumstances.
Our journey of faith is not about what we can see, not about what we can touch, it is about walking with confidence in Him. No matter who you are, no matter your past, the Lord loves you and desires to be with you every day. When the road ahead is not clear, you can rely upon Him. He wants to care for you, to provide for you, to protect you, to give you purpose and satisfaction in life. His desire is to get you through this life and into the next one with success and victory. (Jer 29:11)
When you step out of your comfort zone and keep moving forward in the promises of God, you are facing fear head on, and you will be victorious. You can and will succeed when you walk in the promises of God. If you are saved, you are a child of the Almighty. He has promised to be with because He is your God. He has promised to strengthen you, to help you, and to uphold you when times are tough. You can bank on Him, trust in Him, depend upon Him, and be confident that He is faithful to keep His Word. Every step you take in faith, you are trusting in God’s eternal truth. (Isa 41:10)
There may be times when it may seem that you are drowning in the uncertainty of the unknown. The circumstances may overwhelm you at times and it may seem like the waters of trouble are deeper than you can get through. But God has promised that in these trying times He is with you. He has promised that the water will not overtake you. Faith does not always eliminate fear, but faith does give you courage and boldness to step through that fear and to keep moving forward. Faith anchors us to the unseen hand of God. (Heb 11:6 / Isa 43:2)
There may be times when it seems the fire of troubles are too hot to handle. The heat of the circumstances is burning ever hotter and there seems to be no way to escape or to make it through whatever is going on. God has promised once again that when you walk through the fire you will not be burned. Just like the three Hebrews in the fiery furnace, you can come out of it all without a singed hair on your head. He promises that the flame will not touch you or burn you. (Isa 43:2)
Fear will lie to you about yourself, your circumstances, and about God’s goodness and grace. Fear will obscure the future while faith will shout out the truth of God’s promises. Faith listens to God when all the voices around are calling out to us to trust their reasoning over God’s Word. When God says He will provide every need you can trust and depend upon Him to do so. He provides even the faith that we need to rust and depend upon Him in these times of trial, trouble, turmoil, tension, and tears. God is the ever-faithful God who can and who will keep His Word to those who are faithful to love and obey Him. (Gal 5:22-23 / Deu 7:9)
The storms of life may shake things up, they may shake you up, but they cannot drown you or burn you down when you walk by faith in the promises of God. His promises are the extinguishers in the fire. They are the life preservers in the floodwaters. They are the steppingstones that keep us above the fray. They are the wings that lift us above the circumstances. Be encouraged that the God of creation, the God of the living, the God that gives life by faith will always be there for you in each and every situation and circumstance that you face no matter how bad it may seem. Do not walk by sight, looking at what is going on around you. Walk by faith, overcoming fear, and trusting in the unseen hand of God!
